Did you know?
Duvall started out somewhere else. Francis and James Duvall homesteaded the hillside in the 1870s, but the first townsite, Cherry Valley, sat a half mile downstream on the banks of the Snoqualmie River. In 1909 the Great Northern and the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul railroads began building a line along the river, and the town moved up the hill to where it stands today. Duvall incorporated on January 6, 1913.
On April 28, 1968, nearly 3,000 people came to Larry Van Over's farm in Duvall to watch a piano dropped from a helicopter at least 150 feet up. By then dairy farming had long replaced logging as the town's main business. The last train through Duvall blew its whistle in 1973, and the first stoplight went up in 1995.
